Double Shuen (SP)
Double Shuen (SP) is a two-ply rice paper that shows brilliant color, reveals lively color variation and allows smooth delivery of strokes and color. This paper is OAS's finest for flower painting, in fact, Ning Yeh's Instructional TV Series "Chinese Flower Painting" centers on this very paper.
General Use
Double Shuen (SP) is also great for other subjects such as plants, animals and low-moisture landscapes. An excellent choice for painting but keep in mind that Double Shuen (SP) does require some attention to moisture control as it bleeds easier than regular Premium Double Shuen or Practice Double Shuen. |

Practice Double Shuen (A)
Practice Double Shuen (A) is a rice paper that is between Premium Double Shuen
and Single Shuen in thickness and sensitivity. It is crispy to the touch
and the fiber construction is not as uniform as that of Premium Double Shuen
and Single Shuen.
General Use
Great for all subjects; flowers, birds, plants, animals, low-moisture landscapes, etc. Excellent for practice because of its economical price and sensitivity level (bleeds easier than Premium Double Shuen, can teach you moisture control). |

Double Shuen AO
Double Shuen AO is a double pulled single shuen offering the similar moisture sensitivity of a single shuen but with increased durability.
General Use
Often selected by Calligraphy teachers when teaching beginner students how to write. Its moisture sensitivity reinforces the need for a quick delivery of strokes similar to that of a single shuen, but offers greater durability to a beginner who may cause a single shuen to tear from excess moisture.
This paper is also the recommended paper for Pat San Soucie's (www.patsansoucie.com) watermedia filter technique in abstract watercolor painting.

Single Shuen (formerly Best Shuen)
Single Shuen (formerly Best Shuen), is a fine one-ply rice paper treasured by masters of Chinese brush painting. Single Shuen is the most sensitive of all the Shuen papers – allowing the best color variation to show provided that you learn the skills to control your moisture and apply quick brushstrokes. Without these skills Single Shuen can be frustrating to work with. Too much water, grainy colors, sluggish strokes will all show. Experienced brush painters affectionately call Best Shuen "honest" paper because if you excel it will show your work proudly, if you struggle it will tell the tale.
